HH for the weekend, got there Friday night, cold, blowy with forecast for more. Early hours Sat morning, blowing like mad, heard the lifeboat go out and come back in quite a few hours later.
Was aware that there was a race going on with lots of Irish around, apparantly starting off at 8.00am to Ireland.
Mid morning spotted a dismasted Sigma 33 being shuttled under engine from the temp berths to an jnside one. Apparantly was dismasted in the blow at the Skerries, lifeboat pulled them in with the mast being dumped. Toerail, handrail and stbd stanchions battered. It was a Manx boat, apparantly coming thru the night to take part in the race! Imagine, coming thru the night, beating to windward in heavy conditions and if his mast hadnt gone would have taken off to Ireland in a force 8!
The racers took off for Ireland on schedule, I had the wind instrument on, It was over 30kts with prolonged gusts of 36kts!
What is it with racers? Are they barking? http://www.isora.org/index.php/en/#pageTop

Racers are nutters, of that no further evidence is required. The high and gusting wind had been forecast for days. I need to question your sanity being in the marina at all. Far more sensibly, I watched the Spanish GP from the comfort of home, not while being rolled and pitched against a pontoon finger.

See you both soon, Stu.

I spoke with one of the boats that sailed back after the ISORA. I asked how the racing was. He said it was more about survival than racing! Not my idea of a fun weekend

Had a good weekend really. Lau stitched up an boom cover end, rocked and rolled to sleep! Be there next Sunday later on, need to fuel up for the IoM, couldn't this weekend, didn't fancy going to the fuel berth it was that windy!
