and it is East of Portland. My real motivation for posting was to back up Tigger Too's post , I was really enjoyed discovering what was west of Swanage.....an eye opener after never getting west beyond Poole.

Did you discover why the rock is named Æsop's Bed ?

As kids we used to be taken there by parents during the school autumn half term. Used to spend all the time climbing the rocks and damming up all the 'streams' to make deep pools. Luckily parents had a camper van for them to sit in and keep warm. I think that they kept an eye on us or waited for the family dog to bark.
I just remember it as a desolate place that I have sailed past many times since but never stopped. Hopefully next time ......
