Hello,

I've got a Mercury 6HP 4 stroke that I'm trying to drop the lower leg to inspect the water pump as no cooling water is circulating. However, I can't figure out how to disconnect the shift linkage - it's just a flimsy plastic lever at the top that I'm afraid of breaking off with nothing visible inside the cowling.

Thanks,

Ivan

Cant help with a mercury. If you get no help on here go to the iBoats forum where you will find separate boards for each make of engine.

Give the full model details including year and model number.

Report back here though so that next time someone asks we'll know the answer.

Check if the motor has a rubber grommet, starboard side in the leg about one and a half inches in diam. If so you should see what your looking for there. If not that type, look behind the "carb area" What year,s the motor?

Thanks for that! I've found the grommit as you described. For future ref it's a 2003 model F6ML. Hopefully I can get on the water tomorrow...
