give it a couple of weeks and it might start playing up, as the corrosion sets in... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If you haven't already done so, suggest you wash in warm water rather than just cold, it's better at dissolving the salt and preventing corrosion.

sorry everyone, just in that sort of mood tonight.

I apologise to niander, if i've upset your day, by stating how great seawater is in destroying the things we own..

If it wasn't for the corrosive effect it has, i would have saved a fortune on anodes and other equipment over the years that have been affect by seawater and its environment...

but never mind, back to work tomorrow, to earn another wad of cash to keep the boat in the water...

From memory, about 37g of sodium chloride will dissolve in 100g of water at 0ºC; at 100ºC it's about 40g - NaCl has an unusually flat solubility curve - so warm water ain't going to clean things up much more (though it may help the drill to dry out when you've finished washing.)

I'd be inclined to give the innards a good spray with WD40. All that washing is likely to have removed some of the lubricants. Maybe some kind of engine oil on the bearings...?

Cold rinse in the washing machine does my sailing kit ... as you say - no need for warm water ! Not sure I'd put a drill in there though!

New fangled batteries... you're lucky.. my brace and bit still do me. I find its always you're favorite tools that fall in the water never the old knackered ones.
I agree a spray with wd40 is a good idea.

I'm sorry to have to confirm this dire comment .... but mine did exactly that ... Plop ... wash off quick in fresh water ... fine ... then died - never to work again.

Its also better at taking the grease from packed-for-life bearings!

An optimist says the glass is half full.
A pessimist says the glass is half empty.
In fact the glass is just too bloody big... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
