I called in at Trebeurden recently and put about 400 ltrs in my tanks to cover the trip to Guernsey. On route I experienced a severe reduction in revs on both engines. On arrival in St Peter Port I had a Volvo engineer examine the filters and found them to be very dirty. I know I had clean filters and fuel before I left from Dartmouith to Treb. Two points

1 Warning to other boaters be careful of supplies at Treb and
2 Can anyone suggest a practical way to avoid this in future. I have considered a filter dish or even tights over the filler nozel; both would probabaly slow down re fuelling.

Should have given me a call. Was about in the MMS van and could have solved that problem ver easily.

To avoi this in the future just add Soltron, widely avalable in SPP.

There is a funnel you can buy that incorperates a filter. Sorry, not sure who makes them or how good they are. An example <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.arweb.co.uk/argallery/colspics> Cols Picture Album

with a bad contamination ratio Soltron has cleaned up fuel enough for long enough passage within 24 hours. his freind on holiday with him fueled in exactly the same place and his engine didnt miss a heart beat found out later his freind used Soltron all the time.

It goes to work straight away, if you enter port used half your fuel and fill up with clean and double dose with Soltron you could essentially after a filter change be up and away again in hours.

Worst I have seen was guy broke down with bad ontamination in Brixham we had half of one tank pumped out and that left two half dirty tanks which were filled with clean and double dosed. next day he was in Jersey, two days later in Guernsey and 3 days after that on his way home. And he didnt have to change his filters once the double dose was in.

His freind on holiday with him fueled in exactly the same place and his engine didnt miss a heart beat found out later his freind used Soltron all the time.

Example Alan Priddy, uses Soltron all the way round the world and never changed the main filter. Continued use helps keep the enzymes present in the tank at all times.

Re: Dirty Fuel - testimony on Soltron\'s effectiven

My brother has been right round Irealnd anticlockwise in last 2 months, in his 52 foot trawler yacht. He had to buy fuel by ordering road tanker to deliver to quayside. A few weeks ago he got a really dirty load in Cork, and filters filled with black gunge after a few miles running, engines stopped, had to limp back to port changing filters the whole time. So we got some soltron air couriered out, double dosed plus some extra for luck, and topped up the tanks. Left it 24 hours to brew. Results were very impressive - engines ran fine, no more blocked filters. The Soltron stuff really works so far as dealing with diesel bug is concerned, thoroughly recommended. (It doesn't however deliver the claimed 10% mpg improvement, which is no concern to us as that's not why we bort it anyway, so regard it as a bug fixer product only imho)

Re: Dirty Fuel - testimony on Soltron\'s effectiven

I know it was sold originally on saving mpg cos thats what everyone wants and we have seen some good results with mpg savings and also no savings as it depends on how the engine is run etc etc and this is always difficult to measure in a boat but easier on the road.

As I have always said the reaction rate of Soltron is far superior at breaking down the particles so that they pass through the filters to any of the other products out there.

Glad it sorted out the problem and made little interuption to his plans. Tell him to keep an eye on the transom and see how easy it will be to clean in the future.

Re: Dirty Fuel - testimony on Soltron\'s effectiven

well are boat has 4yr old fuel from its old owners and were trying to used it all up and then refill the tank and add some sort of medicen, thats what my father calles it hehe, and we know its dirty but we couldnt find out why the high revs and slow speeds were all so bad, but now i can tell him whats goin wrong because he was told it could do many more knots than it was doing!
