Read posts with much interest. 4LHA has 10k hours , so new engine budgeted. The 4LHA is still available ex Yanmar dealers at high price, then fitting. I see marketing from Thailand and elsewhere. Is this viable or are there ways to beat the marine ripoff, Advice appreciated. Patrick

Not sure really understand your question, but if you want a new "old style" non electronic non common rail replacement, plenty on the market from Beta, Nanni< Vetus, Volvo (although with electronic control panel. You don't have to buy Yanmar.

I was of the understanding that common rail is direct injection and an older injector pump type is indirect injection.
Or I don't understand your thread title ?

Sorry confused title. The aim is old tech. Yanmar mountings and auxiliaries likeadditional 24V alternatorPTO bilge pump etc all direct changeover so price difference would need to be substantial. I accept it could be done.
My angle is that industrial providers differing tax authorities etc all cause price difference. Eg between 15k and 25 k for same engine. Thanks experience

If you are fitting a new engine in either the EU or UK then it will need to be CE marked. Don't know for sure, but quite possible the same basic engine is available in different formats in different markets at lower cost but not available here because it does not meet regulations. So if you bought an engine in Thailand you could not legally import it unless it comes with a CE certification for marine use.
