Does anyone know where I can buy a secondhand dipstick from? The one I've got isn't long enough to reach the oil any more. I thought of sawing a bit off of the dipstick tube but that seems a bit drastic

Try dipping it with the engine running.
You will normally then get some oil to show on the stick

Put some lead shot down the tube, sufficient to raise the oil level so it shows on your dipstick. May even be cheaper than putting more oil in the engine. And I guarantee you'll never have to top it up again.

Take a trip to Brussels, there's plenty of spare dipsticks there, I'm sure they wouldn't notice one missing

i had the same , so i went out in a F10 then took a look and there it was on the dip stick ,TRY IT

Have you just had it serviced by a Volvo dealer
I cut half an inch off mine and got rid of crankcase compression before I sold the boat!

Climb underneath the engine with a lump hammer, and bash the lower surface of the sump upwards by about an inch all over.

This is due to the cold weather . Your dipstick has shrivelled .
When the weather warms up your dipstick will return to normal.

Joking apart my car and many others I am guessing no longer have dipsticks. It's all electronic. For me this is technology technologies sake. They did away with kicking the tyre introducing TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) Now I don't even have dipstick to extract, study and wipe. Soon there will be no bonnet to open to posture manfully in front of.:livid:
