Having seen the posts about the Centaur at Dinorwic, I am not sure if I dare ask, but here goes....

Having sold my last boat when we had kids I am thinking about getting something little to teach the kids to sail. We used to have a leisure 17 and enjoyed it for what it was.

Can anyone here tell me anything about the Leisure 17sl that Port Dinorwic are selling on ebay? It looks as though it is full of wee and the boom and sails are missing but when I emailed the seller they couldn't give me any more info.

I would go an look, but it's a 400 mile round trip and I just can't find the time...

So, does anyone local know any more about it? The price keeps going up and down as people bid and the withdraw their bids.. All seems a bit odd!

In my view a boat like that is not worth a 400 mile round trip, even if they were giving it away. (I haven't seen the advert, by the way.) (1) there will be lots of similar boats much closer to you - Leisure 17 or otherwise, and (2) apart from any other aspects of the condition, replacing rig and sails is likely to be disproportionately expensive.

I echo LitteSisters' post absolutely; a good L17 at my club - with OK trailer, all the gear just needed tidying, went for about £350, the owner had moved abroad and didn't fancy fees piling up.

A lot were sold so you should find a suitable one; if you can fit the size they're a cracking boat for 17'.

The Sunstar 18 was by the same designer ( Arthur Ibold ? ) and almost identical, so worth looking for too, though there are a lot of good boats going cheap so be open minded...

Avoid the fin keel Leisure, it hardly sails any better and is much less sellable re going on cheap drying moorings etc.

I have the original brochures for the Leisure 17 and Sunstar 18, feel free to PM me with your e-mail address if you'd like scans of them.

Good luck !

Have a look at the Leisure Owners Assoc site. They have a publicly viewable "Market Place" on their site. There are a fair few well cared for examples for sale there.

Thanks everyone, we used to own a Leisure 17, so I know what a great little boat they are, it's just that the one in Dinorwic was the SL which always looks that bit more modern than the original version.

Seajet, thanks for the offer of the brochures, I think I have a copy of them already somewhere, but I will drop you a line if I can't find them.

Now, if anyone knows of a Leisure 17 going cheap!
