Dinghy to Lostwithiel?

Has anyone taken the dinghy up to Lostwithiel on the tide? Is there anywhere to tie the dinghy up reasonably securely? Is it worth the trip from Fowey?

Yes I have done that and it is very worth while beautiful all the way up and a nice quay in the town.

Stop off by the beach at St Winnow.

There is an excellent, quirky farming museum just up the lane..

I did Lerryn many years ago. There was a nice pub in the Village.

I have kayaked it twice and gone up to Lerryn a few times. All brilliant trips. Presume you are talking inflatable not a sailing dinghy, if the latter get your tides right and try and stick to the channels. Not easy! Pretty unmarked. Expect to touch a few times after Golant. But several bigger boats are tied up at Lostwithiel as well as off St Winnow and Lerryn . If using a small outboard it is about 7 statute miles so the noise could get a bit wearing. It is lovely kayak territory. Just don't tell anyone.
Regarding tying up a dinghy there is a small slipway at Lostwithiel but all you will see are other tourists and locals, unlikely many water users, so you will be leaving the dinghy on its own so not really secure. Nice picnic spot by the little bridge.

In the 1970's I sailed my Debutante Sloop up to Lostwithiel and dried out at the mouth of the stream up to the town. Was awoken by an irate gamekeeper who thought we had been poaching!

I got close to Lostwithiel in the 1990s but recall I had to stop where overhead cables were too low for my 7m air draught so rowed the rest of the way in the dinghy. I didn't stop long as the pub was shut and I wasn't happy leaving the lugger too long moored to the bank and wanted to go back down before the tide statred falling.

A chum and I did the trip by inflatable dinghy & 2hp outboard, a lovely journey.

If doing so make sure to have spare fuel & funnel, minor tool kit inc torch, warm jackets just in case and Plan B oars.

No that's not the voice of experience after a narrow scrape, this time anyway...
