I am looking around for a Wayfarer or similar type dinghy or possibly a Drascombe type boat or even a small trailer sailor light enough for towing behind a car.

Hundreds on boats and outboards and other sites but if anyone knows of one in South Wales /Bristol areas could you let me know please.

We have an 'ok' which is Australian but needs new mast and with trailor , similar to enterprise if your interested.
Andy

New plan, our fibreglass dinghy is missing mast but Huw (Cardiff cruiser) has a wayfarer with all the rigging etc but no trailer but i do. His hull needs work but maybe worth pm him or make one out of our two?
Andy

wAYFARER

Cheers Andy I will give U and Huw a ring. The only computer in our house is in for repair so I will be a bit sporadic on line as i am bumming a quick go on various friends laptops at the mo.

wayfarer...

Whats your budget? We have one...a mk 2 grp in pretty good nick, combi trailer (new trolley), almost new main and genoa, etc etc. Shes on apollo duck - Name Salsa. Lying in Solent area but I travel between there and Somerset every week so could easilly bring her up. Asking price is £2500.

PM me if interested.

Wayfarer for Sale

There is a Wayfarer for sale at Lydney Yacht Club - see

http://www.lydneyyachtclub.co.uk/page14.html

Her present owner (Peter) has cruised her extensively, I believe she is a sound boat, and at a good price (£1700). If you want someting more modern (and quite a bit more expensive) I also know of a Wayfarer World at Lydney that is probably available.

Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the sugestions. We are still undecided exactly what type of boat to go for.All have pros and cons. Will make a decision soon then start actvley looking for a boat.

I am tempted by the easy trailering of a Wayfarer but a small trailer sailor would be more comfortable. Then again a drascombe type boat has loads of cockpit seating for family daysailing.

I guess buy one of each is the answer :-)

New boat

We have just bought a Voyager 14 trailer sailor.Basically its a dinghy with a lid on.2 berths and sitting headroom if your not too tall :-).

The plan is to spend the next few seasons visiting places we havent been to.Have been thinking of the river Dart. for the first trip away.

towed the boat back from Bournemouth easilly enough.Trailer is in good order but will change wheel bearings as a precaution.

The boat is useable as is but we will be doing some cleaning ,painting etc.should be ideal for the sheltered water creek crawling stuff we plan on doing.

Graham, what a great looking boat. Fantastic to have something dingy sized but still able to get inside for tea in the rain or even overnight. Add the advantage of keeping her ashore and you have almost the perfect vessel.
Good luck with the sailing this year, see you out there.

Thanks for the link Pete. I have just signed on and waiting for approval.

Also had a look at your website. Some interesting stuff about the Paradox and also I take my hat off to you for being an LEL finisher. I do a little bit of cycling but couldnt even dream of doing that one.

Cheers Graham

Nice one Graham. Looks like you could get into all sorts of interesting places with that. Do you have an engine for her?

Cheers Martin may see U in Milford haven later in the year. Also plan to visit the dart .Have fitted new hubs and bearings on the trailer ready for doing some miles.

We have a 3hp tohatsu motor which will be ideal.could just row it short distances.

That would be great. I'm sure you've been there already, but the Cleddau is stunning in its upper reaches, and I reckon you could almost get to Harrywest in that.

I joined the Yahoo group ,some interesting stuff on there. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Voyager14andRedstart/

Have made some channels to assist launchiong and recovering. Tried them out this afternoon .Worked a treat.

I will send you my email address in a private message if you want to keep in touch.

Graham,
The guides look impressive. Can I sugeest that you line the bottom of the channels with some type of plastic. PTFE would be best but probably too expensive. I will be at CYC from tonight, hope to see you about.

I've used a similar system for launching/recovering a motor launch with bilge rails. As Allan has suggested, I was concerned about abrasion as the boat slid along the channel. My budget solution was to buy about 8 large cheap plastic kitchen chopping boards from hyper value (you know those white cheap ones) cut them to suit and epoxy them to the channel. Not quite PTFE but it did the job at a fraction of the cost (£4).

I also used a can of silicone spray grease on the plastic lined channel before use, though this was probably OTT, and not too eco-friendly! But it was very easy to launch/recover the 1.5 Tonne boat by myself, without breaking sweat on the winch, or damaging the boat - and all without wetting the hubs.

It pulls on fairly easy as it is but I will keep my eye out for some plastic chopping boards and give it a go.thanks for the tip.
