Hello all,
I saw this boat in a film called "Black Book".
I quite like the look of it and was wondering what it is.
So if anyone can help?

Thanks, Nick.

It's a half-decker not a dinghy. Probably a keel boat. I'd try the Netherlands - there used to be something similar(ish) that sailed on Barton Broad for many years - called Squelchy (or thereabouts) that was Dutch and I understand subsequently returned to the Netherlands.

Thanks, I guess I should have mentioned the film was base in holland or belgium during the second world war. Hence the bomb entering the frame on the third picture.

Nick.

I have just had a quick google, and all I can find are references to this post and mud. But its a start.

Keelboat

I am pretty sure that it is a BM dayboat, built in mahogany. Length 6m, beam 1.80m (?), drawing 80cm, sail area 16m2
There are still many to be found in Holland.
I had a lot of fun with mine in the 70's :)

I think you could be right, I am still trying to confirm it.
Here are a couple more snaps showing some detail.
Are these lake boats? or would they be any good in the solent.

Also something I had not noticed before.
I dont know the proper name for it, its not a gaff rig but it has a sort of mast extension.

BM

The gaff peaks up very high and could maybe be described as a sliding gunter rig, although I would accept advice from the experts. The gaff has jaws sliding up the mast. The mainsail is also laced to the mast.
The boats were designed for river and lake sailing such as you find in Holland, and apart from the keel they have a very flat underwater section.
I sailed mine on a very big reservoir during my time working in Germany.
