Hi there- we have a 29’ Monterey Sport Cruiser and looking to mount our dinghy. Not sure what the best system is for this boat. Any thoughts? The dinghy is a centre console with 25hp motor
I would have said that it would be very difficult if not impossible to carry a dinghy with a centre console and 25hp engine (so assuming it is at least 3m in length?) on a sports cruiser that size.
Must common davit type on sports cruisers around that size are snap davits but they require the RiB / dinghy to stand on one side, usually with the engine removed, which wouldn’t be an option with a centre console and a 25hp outboard, which will be heavy to lift on and off.

Thanks for the reply! We towed the dinghy last year and we use it all the time for our weekend boating. We stay overnight quite often even up to a week. It’s so difficult because towing it is a whole other world of pain at 28-30mph. It was jumping all over the place. We have seen one system on a similar boat that seems to work, although the dinghy is on an angle which is fine. Motor doesn’t need to come off but lots of tie offs required. And two people to yank it up. It’s a plastic bottom dinghy and quite light- 300 pounds total.View attachment 190406
Is the dinghy really worth the fuss and will it get used ?
Mounting a dinghy will lead to a considerable loss regards swim platform area and ease of access via stern of boat.
In addition the last thing you need is more weight to add to engines and outdrives at extreme stern of hull.
Not going to help getting onto the plane either .
Davits (only method of leaving outboard in situ) would require considerable reinforcing underneath the mountings on the boat, most probably steel ie. even more weight.
Snap davits would require less reinforcement but outboard need to be removed after each use and you are going to have fun getting at those aft quarter cleats with a dinghy flopped over the top ?
It is just unrealistic to expect to be able to tow a dinghy of that weight and size at those speeds, equally unrealistic to have a safe system for carrying it on davits on a boat your size. You may be able to pull it up on the platform using a system such as one of those in post#6, but I am not sure any of them are available in the UK. That amount of weight that far aft on the boat would kill performance. Thanks for the reply! We towed the dinghy last year and we use it all the time for our weekend boating.
