I have an HP215 Digital Camera that is positively eats batteries indeed when using it I have a Artic following me with replacements.
Can anyone here recommend a cheapo easy to use camera that doesn't need batteries every five micro decimal seconds.

Cheap is qualitative expression .. compared to a Nikon D1X, a Canon Digital Ixus is cheap, and takes brilliant photos. The Olympus mju, is similar money and weatherproof

For slightly less money the Minolta Dimage range has a number of good value cameras - most with LiOn batteries - no more artic needed....

I have a digi vidio and still camera. Batteries last all day, or weeks if just taking stills. Then just plug in and charge up. Anyway should that not be a barge following you? Sorry forgot, you sold the boat!!

I bought the Fuji FinePix 4800 which I'm very pleased with, however it's still a size where you say 'shall I take it or not' For son's (and again for the daughter's) birthday we bought an IXUS V which are excellent and a size that you can slip in your pocket. We bought on the internet at huge discount but the instructions were in French.

Yep thats my experience with a Fuji as well. Another tip, use the screen as little as possible.

Change the batteries for new high capacity NiMH rechargeables. About a year ago, the maximum capacity in AA size for these was about 1200 or 1400 mAH. The technology moves fast and now you can buy 1900mAH. About £10 for 4. I also use the fuji finepix flat camera becuase quite small

Last year in March, 1800mAh was about the maximum you could get but now it's up to 2200mAh.

1800mAh are enough for most cameras unless you start using the screen on the back, that's when they really suck them dry. Get a camera that you can use the viewfinder with and not one that you always need to use the screen.

The Minolta Dimage Xt or the latest X20 is an excellent tiny digital camera. Check out "What digital camera" magazine which has an excellent section covering all previous reviews.

What eats the batteries on Digi-cameras is the LCD display. If you have a normal viewfinder (window) for taking photos and leave the LCD display off, the batteries last a lot longer.

My latest camera is a Fujifilm 4900 - an excellent machine with rechargable di-lithium crystals. Does tend need recharging quite a bit, but will last a weekend without problems. At least it's possible to carry a second warp core about with you and recharge them both before the next trip.
