Different nasa wind cups

That time of the decade again, new nasa wind cups. The ebay looked OK, nasa clipper wind vane cups - but.... turned up saying only use for 5 wire units, mine's 3 wire. Doh!
So is it a disaster or can the 5 wire cups be persuaded to fit a 3 wire system? Pain to send back and get more.

You might as well fit them and see. You'll be replacing them again soon...

The only difference I'm aware of is the wireless and tactical masthead units using different cups to the standard type. So I think you'll be fine.

If you order them from Nasa you are asked to specify which type:

One fits: Clipper, Target, Cruiser Wind MK1 – (5 wire mast head units)

The other fits: Clipper, Target, Cruiser Wind V2 – (3 wire mast units), Wireless and Tactical masthead units

I doubt if the 5 wire type will fit the wire 3 system .... there would be no point in supplying both types if it did but you could always ask Nasa. It might save an unnecessary trip up the mast.

The V2 wind masthead unit is fairly new so if you've had yours a few years, double check how many wires you have.

3 wires in mine, came with meteoman. Cups that arrived clearly state "for 5 wire" in the enclosed paperwork, but no mention in the listing.. .

They do also list what is presumably the item you really want as replacement cups for Wireless and Tactical MHUs

Would probably have seen that in a search if I had a wireless or tactical MHU, but don't. The other listing was for clipper but no mention of 3 wire & 5 wire versions.

We'll see, if it can be made to fit then all's well, otherwise only having an address for a few days a year when visiting doesn't make ebay or getting them replaced easy

Nothing to do with money, delivery time needed to be very short, ebay was what came up first from google.

If it does not fit the short delivery time has not been much help either !
