Diesel tanks

I have aquired a diesel motor for my trimaran and am wondering if it would be ok to use plastic tote tanks as used for outboards for putting the diesel in.
The advantage to me is that as the boat is on a swinging mooring an outboard tank is an easy way to purchase and transport the fuel to the boat.
Are there any compelling reasons that this may not be a good idea?

The on ly problem, would be with air getting into the system, when you connect/dis-connect the tank, you would have to bleed the system every time, also you need a fuel return pipe to the tank, for the leak-oof from the injectors and possiblyt from the filters and pump. It's not a very good idea.

Better to have a permanent tank(plastic - no need for a fuel gauge, you can see the level) and use jerry cans to fill it up - you won't have to bleed the system each time as mentioned previously. You can get 10 litre plastic cans now for diesel.
