Are there any issues with installing a diesel tank under a bunk? I seem to remember someone saying that the temperature difference caused condensation.

I have just spent ages trying to work out how to get a bigger tank under the aft deck then thought, why not move it forward and put a gas locker where the current tank is.

Our boat has had the fuel tank under the aft double berth from when it was built. I have never seen more than a few drops of water in the fuel/water separator so I don't think condensation is a problem!

We have the diesel tank under the 2 aft bunks. No problems with water in the separator so far. I have the boat 5 years now. Besides the diesel tank is in the same compartment as the engine.

I think the condensation issues relate to the underside of the bunk, rather than in the diesel tank. As the diesel is a large cool thermal mass, you have a higher chance of getting condo under your mattress. That said, I had water tanks under some infrequently used bunks and never had a problem with them.

Our 140L S/S tank is under a saloon berth and we've had no problems. The water-tank is also under a berth forwards and it does get a bit manky in there.

Better than an electric blanket?

Oh it never occurred to me that it would save putting a radiator in the cabin. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks guys for all your input. It was more the condensation under the bunk that I was thinking about. I am trying to plan it that the bunk will take a proper off-the-shelf mattress and I'm sure that I'll find one of the ventillation options suitable for underneath.
