Does anyone know the pump price in Italy at the moment.
Will be going there soon and was wondering wether it’s worth it to top up in France @€1.54 / L .
I think I know the answer to that one but still would like to know the pump price when we get there .

Yes.
Price in IT can vary depending on pumps, and on the road you might also find a cheaper one.
But Nautical pumps are generally much dearer. Don't ask me why.

In my experience fuel prices in Italy are always more expensive than France. I paid €1.83/litre in La Spezia a couple of years ago which is probably the most expensive fill up I've ever had in the Med

Currently in Italy fuel prices fluctuate from 1.80 up to 2 euros. A customer of mine paid 2 euros in Pantelleria a month or so ago. So in the small remote islands you might end up being charged a 10 to 20 cents more.

Jeez. How does the average Italian boater afford to go boating?

Look on the local fuel price sites and you get up to date, real time information.

Plenty to choose from.

I did that and the results did not compare to a drive in IT last week .
The sites today say Ave €1.54 in IT .
I saw €2 .0 on the autostrada with service , a guy fills you up or €1.90 for self service .
However I filled up ( Wife’s diesel car ) @€1.38 from a town on the Ligurian coast .
Realise the sites are an Ave but no real use to me .

In Fr it’s €1.6 to €1.70 on the motorway and €1.40 on the street yet I can get it as said at a marina for €1.54 , nearby but the Ave I think in the SoF is nearer €1.80 .

Oh well the “living “ side ex fuel is cheaper but depending of vol of L burned and meals etc ashore it’s borderline wether it’s gonna actually cost more globally?
I guess the place will be humming too re IT summer shut down and migration to the coast(s) .

Or you could ( well I ,am :)) argue the people are nicer compared to FR , so you pay for you get , if that in a man maths way help stomach to pump prices at fill up time :encouragement:

That’s an enigma we can’t work out as when we drive through via Turin to the a Ligurian coast then turn towards Monaco the % of high end cars is markedly greater on the IT side than the crummy A8 when we pass through Ventimiglia ans enter Fr .Buggati Verons included , outside CH only ever seen them being used in IT on IT plates .

Also there’s a disproportionately high numbers of Monaco plated cars running about on the Ligurian motorways .
So whey so many Monaco residents driving about in IT ?
Obviously you see them knocking about on the CdA , density decreases with distance firm M , but in IT ..... hmmm ?

The real reasons are I suspect best not discussed :encouragement:

Actually that is something I would agree with in general but the Italians are not worth another €0.30 - 0.50/litre IMHO;)

Now, now you'll get told off by Mapism;)
Not this time, M.
It would be naive to label PF statement as specious.
He was indeed a bit economical with the truth, though: the habit he's referring to is very far from being just an Italian one.
As well as MC is far from being the only place in the planet where, as Clarkson put it in in The Perfect Road Trip, people drive "cars they bought using money they should have paid in taxes"...
