diesel prices

Filled up with diesel from Burnham Yacht Harbour in the early summer-34 pence a litre.
Went to fill up two days ago-47 pence a litre!
Questions
1. Have I missed something? Has the oil price increase increased fuel prices that much? I do not seem to have seen it on the high street garage prices.

2. Is this the most expensive diesel on the East coast/countrywide?

Could it be BYH profiteering under new owners? surely not.

Keeps going like this, there won't have to be a red fuel duty protest, the price will be the same anyway!

No tax on red diesel so the true effect of the recent increases in oil price are more obvious.

I was thinking much the same about car diesel today. Having just disposed of my really fast, comfortable but thirsty petrol driven estate car, and bought a diesel powered hatchback, I now find that diesel is as much as 4p per litre more than petrol. This is in the Bracknell area. Visiting mother in Bath twice per week, I find the diesel is only 1p per litre more than petrol - both garages are Esso.

On top of that, we have oil fired heating at home - this has gone up by a much greater factor than either marine or road fuel.

I've given up trying to understand any logic in pricing, nowadays.

Talking about the tax and duty on diesel, I believe that there is a base price for the diesel and they add duty to this price.

Then V.A.T. is added to the combined total of the diesel and duty, meaning that they have taxed the duty which, although I am no expert, I believe is illegal.

Is this correct?

Yes - quite correct. The VAT is applied to the duty as well. The duty for red diesel went up on the 1st of September too.

According to the BBC News site, the price of oil is at its lowest since September and falling like a stone. What's the bet the pump prices don't follow it for months?

Spoke with an oil man a few days ago. The current price has nothing (or little) to do with the problems in the Middle east but are rising because of demand in China. For this reason they are not likely to come down significantly in the near future. And if the dollar picks up...??
