Diesel prices - UK vs France vs Channel Islands

Does anyone know how diesel prices compare across the Channel, both in France and Jersey/Guernsey, to back here in the UK?

Before the introduction of duty on marine diesel I always used to fill up before I left and usually had enough for a round trip. Consequently I have never really paid attention to prices elsewhere.

Where is the best plase to buy? Is it Guernsey/Alderney? I know they still don't levy duty on red diesel.

No duty in CIs, about half the price in UK, filled up in ST Helier this year. Gory slightly cheaper,and St PP slightly more expensive.
France pays duty but is approx .80p/l at present so cheaper than white dieso at present.

Cheapest diesel in France is in hypermarkets at about €0.92 going up to about €1.10 on autoroutes. Marinas are probably at the higher end of the range.

However you need to be careful; many garages do not allow you to fill jerricans. Therefore you need to go to credit-card operated pumps out-of-hours.

Spain 0.96 Euros
France supermarket 0.93 Euros, autoroute 1.08 - 1.10 euros

Sounds like the Channel Islands have the best buys. Anyone know the current prices in St Helier, St Peter Port and Braye?

Is your concern here that this is red diesel? If so, presumably that is only an issue when visiting countries that do not use red diesel (eg. France?)

Surely that comment applies equally when filling up here in the UK. Last time I filled up my boat's jerry can (admittedly a couple of years ago) the diesel from my marina fuel berth was dyed red. I assume that it still the case despite the fact that we now pay higher duty rates on it. (Can't say I notice, coz when I fill up normally it just goes straight from the nozzle to the tank). You would have the same issue with French customs officers with diesel bought in the UK as you would with the red stuff bought in the CI.

Diesel in Guernsey Boatworks + about 56ppl from a Fuel Supplies tanker at St Sampsons about 39ppl with the latter minimum volumes may apply.

I didn't think Guernsey Diesel was coloured Red, certainly the Diesel in my spare cans was white and the last place I filled them up was Boatworks, Guernsey.

I filled up in Alderney last week at 60p, but when I got to Guernsey it was 55p and 10% off for 1000 litres or more!

I filled up at the premier Gosport marina at the w/e. Cost for 142 ltrs was £104 = 0.72p per ltr, so it looks like after the CI that we still have the cheapest going with the 40/60 split.

I cannot believe that the C&E managed to think out of the box and not rock the boat too much........

Remember you have to add 32cents per litre tax to that, that you self declare, making it effectively 1.15 euros
