Suspect you have been overcharged for commercial marine diesel or fuel for heating only at 40%. Around 50p-60p is nearer the going rate. ?
Abuse of the 60/40 % derogation is rife in certain parts of the country and very likely to lead to its withdrawal.
Welcome to "White" for all in the very near future. ?

I'd certainly welcome a move to white diesel only it would remove a lot of faff about going abroad, and I certainly agree that the tax break for domestic use is abused. The chap at Port Solent was quite surprised last year when I asked for 100% domestic because I'd only used the diesel for heating over winter. Apparently everyone does 60/40 which is clearly not the case for most!

It's where I always used to go. Not only is it cheap, but it's fresh, clean fuel as they have a high turnover.

The London canal (boat yard) price 85p apx

The propulsion duty is self declaration, the vendor is not allowed to make it up (makes their paperwork easier), but some try
Like many, in the winter, virtually all my diesel is for domestic use

We filled up in Cowes 4 weeks ago for winter at 80p/litre all heating/generating use for the upcoming winter.

I tend to base it on the usage of what I'm replacing rather than what I'm planning as it makes it easier to work out.

And I assume that you came alongside and departed under sail! :/!
in a 37ft semi displacement mobo, yes of course we did,! Our fuel flow meters recorded a total of just 8 litres used between our two engines at tickover revs for the return trip of around 2 miles some of which was heating water and some for charging batteries anyway. ?

That derogation for domestic use was always a government fudge to get round EU legislation and the 60-40 split was, IIRC offered as a reasonable rate that would be accepted without question. It always struck me as the government saying, "We've got to make the rules, but here's how you get round them."

As we live aboard and with multiple lockdowns inhibiting movement we have used pretty near zilch for anything other than heating or generating and turning the engines over occasionally in our berth. We do feel prepared with full tanks for a bad winter now at least with all the current gloom and doom predictions.

In that case, you should be claiming a 90+% domestic price, but be ready for the HMRC to pay a visit!
