That is it, I've snapped. Eighteen quid for a bit of square plastic with blotting paper attached (Separ 2000 pre filter). I intend to remanufacture my own.
Does anyone know where I can get the paper from? Is there any suitable, cheap automotive product I can perhaps dismember?
Cheers, Brian.

Have you backflushed it?

You can backflush the Separ 2000 to removed dirt & water from the paper filter. This should extend its life. I wouldn't try to make one, though.

Re: Have you backflushed it?

dont know the filter well but if its paper backflushing wil not remove the dirt blocking the pores eventually it will become clogged.

Suggest you look at the Separ website...

As you don't know about the Separ filter, looking at their website will bring you up to speed with their recommended backflushing method. You are right to say that "eventually it will become clogged", but it is a long-life filter and shouldn't need replacing often enough for the cost to be a major issue.

Hey Brian, Like you were all trying to keep the cost down but be careful!

What engine do have? your profile doesn't give any information.
I do not know of the filters your'e referring to but I thought I would suggest you look foe comparisons foe yor engine if it's a typical Volvo, yanmar. Buhk etc because we now there are ample substitutes available in the market.

Regards.

peter.

pvb, Brilliant, I have just been replacing the element yearly or when it looked dirty! As my tiny engine only uses less than 1% of the maximum flow rate I should buy my next filter about 2015. Thanks for the advice everyone.
