Hi - I am looking to install a diesel generator onto my 35 ft river/ broads cruiser to charge batteries, run fridge and lights etc when not running engine and would appreciate thoughts and advice from anyone who has gone this route. I have looked at a portable Honda type unit but am concerned about having petrol on board and limited power outputs. There appears to be ample room to install a diesel generator in engine bay or in aft hold - main requirement is for generator to be quiet and powerful enough to run fridge, lights etc and charge batteries. Any thoughts?

Many thanks.

Fischer Panda diesel geni sets are quite popular in this part of the world. The 4.5kva model seems the stock inboard geni used on many shannon cruisers. Compact, very quite, plumbed into boats diesel system, and cools via hull skin fittings. Agree about petrol comment, been there done that many years ago and it was a pain in the neck. Inboard is worth the cost difference on every score.
