Diesel Fuel Filter / Water separator

I think it would be good time to fit the new one for our Volvo 2003T, old one is a bit tired...

how's about this one:
Racor Replacement Marine Snapp Fuel Filter with 2 Micron Element, https://www.asap-supplies.com/parker-racor-marine-snapp-filter-element-r23298-02?

or if any one has any better recommendation, Please advise, needs to be done very soon.
Thanks

I would use a top loading filter to make filter element changing easy and less messy

Old one is very old, probably better to invest in all new unit now. Thanks Richard

I think you misunderstand, Ivan.

When I say that the latter is a non-starter, I meant that if the Racor filter you linked to in your post is a throwaway unit with a non-replaceable filter element, which I believe it is, then that is a non-starter. I would definitely purchase a filter unit with a replaceable filter element.

..... however can you change the filter or do you throw the whole thing away?

The latter is a non-starter.

The link in the OP is just the replacement filter - you throw the whole lot away, so around fifty quid every time! A separate bracket is needed to hold the filter. Doesn't sound a very sensible solution to me.

Yes, you are right, I agree. Which one would you suggest to for? I seen some that I like, but they are over £150.00, double Racor ...and we can do with something more affordable, and again with clear bowl and top changing filter insert... Probably asking too much...

Thanks Richard

You might find a Racor 120AT is suitable - spin-on filter element makes it easy to change. £73 here - https://www.hyphose.co.uk/120at-448 - but rather more at ASAP.

Thanks pvb, 10 micron should be fine enough?
I just had a look at this one https://www.hyphose.co.uk/racor--filtration/racor--filters/500fg10-469, bit more expensive , £140.00, but probably easier to replace the filter?

Someone on here has previously recommended a Chinese version of the 500FG which I think are about half the price and take the same filters.

I have a 500FG on each 30bhp engine and use 10 micron filters and have always been very pleased with them.

Did any one buy Racor Type Diesel Filter Water Separator Fuel chinese version from eBay, only £39.99, but is it worth of risk ?!? Or they are very similar quality?

Might have been me. I did as this forumite did [ http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?463929-Facor-fuel-filter-recommendation-(fake-Racor-500FG) ] and am very happy with the result for ~£60 or £70. Do follow his advice to smooth off rough edges, replace the O rings and replace the lousy, ill-fitting filter that comes with it with a proper Parker Racor one (2010TM; eBay will oblige). 10 micron is arguably a bit fine, but the filter has such a large surface area for the fuel consumption of my 40hp Yanmar that it’s fine and the fine gauge gives you comfort that small particles aren’t getting through. I seem to recall I had to change the hose tails, I think from 10mm to 8mm: ASAP supplies or some such will oblige.

The ease of filter changing, and the centrifugal water separator, and the ability to see any crud that’s collected, made it a rewarding change.

BTW, the priming instructions are here: http://www.parker.com/Literature/Rac...ine_Series.pdf and here's a great article on how the things actually work: http://www.racornews.com/single-post...s-Fuel-Filters

No, they're absolutely not; but (as per my post above) if you sand the rim, bin and replace the O rings, and bin the filter and only use Racor ones, IMHO they're fine and I have done one or two thousand miles on mine without problem, with big saving and with visibility of any water or bug in my diesel.
