Diesel fuel conditioner?

Hi everyone
In the interests of keeping last years diesel clean and in good order is it a good idea to squirt special stuff in my tank to ensure efficient running. I believe there are many types on the market with different functions but are they really a good idea? I have a Volvo 2040 that starts very well and have changed my fuel and oil filters. But still very keen to maintain a strong tickover and consistent running. Some claim they do magic things with condensation that may have built up in the tank over winter and some clean the injectors? Are they all wishful thinking or should I empty my tank and start again? Keen to explore whatever is best.
Thanks in antic.

From my amateur understanding and having been an innocent bystander at previous heated discussions on here between experts, this is what I've picked up - it might not all be correct:
there are two sorts of additive for diesel bug. One is a biocide which kills the bugs which grow at water/diesel interface eg Fuelset. Problem here is that bug develops immunity after a while so switch between brands to confuse it.
The other sort is an enzyme to which they don't develop tolerance cos it works in a different way eg Soltron.
Some stuff will disperse water into fuel and allow it to pass "harmlessly" through engine. Someone on here once said they didn't want drops of water hanging around in their fuel pump or injectors cos of corrosion.
Then of course there's all the Halfords stuff - injector cleaners and similar.
That's what I've picked up, which might be mumbo jumbo.
Most agree that keeping tank full stops condensation.

Why do you think the diesel is "off" ? Diesel can stand for years and still work ok .....

There are additives ... some are retail rubbish .... some are excellent but specific for a job - ie Fuelset / Soltron etc.

There is a lot of rubbish spouted about fuels and treating them. There is also a lot of rubbish spouted about so called engines and fuels ... nearly all fuels on market now are blended and have various additives and spiking agents added to "pep" them up.

Is your engine running ok ? Is there any residue or gunge in bottom of tank ? If answers are yes to first and no to second ....... then leave well alone unless you want to add a bit of bug stuff to stay "clean" ??????
