Has anyone experience of the device called ALGAE-X, which claims to clean water and micro-organisms from fuel, without the need to use Soltron and other magic potions ? It is apparently a device that is fitted in the fuel system between the tank and the primary filter, and is said to work by generating some sort of magnetic field.

G'day Dr Alan.

Perhaps you should look into a fuel polishing / cleaning system, the link listed below has lots of information, you can build one into the boat or make a potable unit.

This only one of many fuel polishing systems on the net and prevents rubbish being pumped thru your very expensive fuel pump and injectors.

I suspect the in-line magnets help the filter remove rubbish by aligning the particles with a north south charge.

The systems are 80% plumbing so well within the DIY arena.

Hope this helps

Save your money...

There's no evidence that any of these "miracle" magnetic devices will work.

Ask to see genuine comparative test results, because I don't believe there are any.

Try to find the "Practical Sailor" magazine test (Apr 97) and see what they thought.

Ask yourself "If these magnetic devices are so good, how come every diesel boat and car doesn't have them fitted as standard?".

And if you're still undecided, do a Google "Groups" search for "Algae-x".

Smoke and mirrors!

I agree that if they are as good as claimed, the car manufacturers would fit them as standard as they would cost pence in that sort of quantity. Stick to Soltron!

Gooday Doc

I would rather get an cetrifugal feul filter myself - Donaldson (US) manufactures one that can handle 15 liters per second with a filre that has a 12 month guarentee - on most yachts that means 5 years - just a thought. Usded it on diesel landrover on cross africa trip - on troubles and the feul in zambia etc had to be seen to be believed....
