Can the ECF experts recommend an Essex company that can analyse red diesel for contaminants ?

Sampling fuel from bottom of tanks seems clean, clear and no signs of sludge, Filters are clean. However, Yanmar are suggesting that my fuel injection problems are due to water in the fuel.

Your help please.

I haven't used either of these companies but they are worth a ring.

Colchester Fuel Injection and Intertek in Grays

I have used Colchester Fuel Injection, and they are excellent.

However, I think you would be better speaking to ASAP Supplies in Ipswich about changing to a finer fuel filter, say 2 micron. At your flow rates, it should not be an issue to find a suitable RACOR filter.
The other way of checking this is to get a gallon of decent known diesel fuel and put the pickup in the can, then run the engiine. Then there would be no doubt about fuel quality.

Intertek, SGS, Saybolt all have laboratories in the West Thurrock area that can do the tests you require.

They will not be cheap.

Thanks gentlemen.

It sounds like it will be Colchester FI as I have to go there anyway to pick-up the FIP. They charge £55+vat per tank + 1 litre/tank to test.

I'm hoping that I don't have to get the fuel polished :-(

Jim, boat was fitted with Separ, now doubled up, I think the elements are 10 micron. Then there is the yanmar engine mounted filter. I'm not aware of a filter less than 10 micron in the Separ range.

Maybe showing my ignorance but doesn't water separate out when left? My coarse filters are described as water separators as well as filters, and have a provision for draining the bottom to get rid of the water.

I'd welcome some advice - especially as bio diesel seems to want to attract water. Is that the issue? Does the water bind to the biodiesel instead of separating out?
