Given the Channel Islands are not part of the EU, the proposed tax does not apply.

So if you fill up with their diesel, must it be declared on arrival in the UK and tax be paid?

This would be a fairly confusing issue:-
1. You top up with say 150 gallons in the CI - how much is left when you reach UK waters?
2. How can they possibly police it?
3. You may already have red diesel in your tanks and the dye may stay for years because you never really allow the fuel to get too low.
4. The redi diesel could be my trip to Ireland 3 months ago - so my tank is made up of so much from here, so much white from there and so much red from the other place .... a nightmare. :)

Was that Red or white diesel in Jersey??

I know, we'll have a "pink diesel tax" instead and then it's all covered..end of story.

Anyway whose going to collect this tax differential when one gets back to the UK.??
There's barely enough customs staff left on the coasts to even pretend we have a coastal C&E service.

Steve.

how do you know "on- arrival" if the 150 galls bought in C.I. is still in the tank?.
you might just have used it all to travel to U.K. & the original fuel in the tank could still be there.
or am i completely wrong.
in Holland the locals still buy red diesel openly, some claim its for "heating" therefore exempt

Interesting point. Anyone know how many French boats go to CI and fill up and what they do about french duty?

In the CI, it's white diesel.

And to clarify their status, the CI are part of the British Isles but not part of the UK. Their allegiance is to the Duke of Normandy which happens to be title currently held by the Queen. That's the only reason they are part of the British Isles.
