Diesel contamination

After topping up my fuel tank today from a container, I noticed a black, slimy, glutinous substance had collected on the funnel filter.
Could this be a bacterial fungi?
Should I treat the tank with a diesel conditioner?

I'm sure you can!

What no one has been able to recommend is where I can get this wonder treatment in small quantities. The standard quantity is enough to keep me going for 200 years

Is this the people in Belfast? If so you'll be lucky to get a reply from them. Several of us on the MBC forum have bought ours from a little shop down in Poole I think, though I got mine from their stand at Earls Court. They've got a website which you might find more helpful. http://www.cdet.co.uk/order/ordindex.html. Can't give an opinion as to it's efficiency, not actually used it yet.

I have bought the small size twice from them with out any problems. They even sent a small drop dispenser as I only treat the fuel in cans as I buy it rather than when its added to the boat tank after a full treatment at the start of the year.

Thanks for your help, Dom.
I'm going to give Soltron a try.
My tank is full,(20gallons) will I have to drain it before adding the soltron?
Could I syphon off 5-10gls mix the soltron with it then pour it back in?

nah just ti it in with half a litre of fuel if the pipe is quite long and bendy if not dont bother the enzymes feeding plus movement of boat will ensure it gets around the tank.

I phoned Belfast, sent a cheque and was sent some which arrived within a couple of days of sending the cheque. When it arrived, some had leaked. Another phone call and a new bottle the next day. I thought the service was excellent.
