Im in the process of purchasing my second boat. my first was a sailing Catamaran.
The boat is 55ft with twin Mercedes Wizemann 420hp.
Cruising speed is believed to be around 22kn
What could I expect roughly to be my fuel consumption.
Thanks
Russ

need to know more about the boat, but I am guessing at that size and cruising speed it must be a planing hull
engine make/age will affect the fuel burn but not that much as it takes a certain amount of power to move a boat that size and that much power requires an equivalent amount of diesel. I would guesstimate about 180 - 200 l/hour.

Hi,

I think only theoretically, full trooth about 180 litres / hour and cruising speed load you engine 70%, fuel burns about 130 litres/hours and your boats hull speed about 25-30 litres / hour 8-9kn. I think the consumption could be up max to 10% higher than my number, certainly there are several, about 55 feet and about 2 x 420 hp.

But all depend on the weight of the boat, the V-angle you hull and other factors.

A little meat on the bones, old VP122 450hp Curves, typical old 55" planig boats engines. Look fuel consuptions curve/2.Based on calculated propeller load.

On my boat mainly trips of about 2 hrs including slow port running short distances at each end a pair of 370's:

I would expect yours to be about 105 litres per hour average.

I would expect yours to be about 7.3 ;litres per nautical mile on average.
