My Beta BD662 is getting a bit smoky in its old age. Consensus seems to be that the rings are probably gummed up leading to increased "blow-by", hence much smoke from exhaust and crankcase breather.

I've been recommended to put a conditioner in the fuel and maybe in the oil too.

Does anyone know the right stuff to use? For cars, Millers Diesel Power Plus seems to be the dog's wotnots, but is it OK for marine engines?

I suspect that the cure in a bottle will be only a temporary cure. It will not make a tired engine get up and go.

Delaying the inevitable service.

Best Diesel cleaner

Is diesel. Have you run it at full power and load for at least 5 and preferably 10 minutes.

That will get most old smokers through the MOT, and certainly clears the crap out of mine after charging the battery or motorsailing under light load for an afternoon.
