Anyone been to Dielette, I fancy trying it this season. Main worry is the tides.

If you have been there did you plan direct from UK or via Alderney, it appears to me there must a perfect time to leave Alderney to catch the tide through the race but arrive at Dielette in time to get over the sill

The Shell pilot says I can get over the sill +/- 2.5 hours , we are going over at neaps.

Finally is it worth it.

Thanks in advance

Yes its worth it if you want to watch cowes and horses grazing nearby and there are some pleasant walks in the lanes of Cap de Flammanville. Good food at the Raz du Blanchard at the marina. Mini Proxy shop at the marina, can order stuff from Proxy in Flammanville for next day. Free minibus to Les Pieux 6km inland which is main town of area with 2 good supermarkets.

Aim to catch slack water pre-ebb at the Alderney Race and you should easily make the tide gate at Dielette. However, if you miss it there is an "outside" pontoon with water and power which should be OK for up to 2m draft. One can also just make Diellette on the flood from Jersey marina if you don't hang about.

Bon voyage.

Yes it's worth it.
We went there for the first time last year. It's a quiet and unpretentious sort of a place. The entrance is unlikely to be a problem. I would go again.

We waited about two hours for the free bus, then some one took pitty on us. Cant say I'd bother going again. Oh and had a big row with a frenchy who said we'd nicked his place, even thought the HM had sent us there. Told him we would move when he stopped yacking on in some uninteligable tongue!!

I agree with Mike's comments. We liked it when we were there three years ago. Small 'farmer's market' on quayside one day a week. (Can't remember which one).

We sailed from Sark and found no problem with tides.

The harbour has been dredged recently and is a bit deeper in places now but stick to mid channel all the way through. Visitors moorings cost nothing but go into the harbour and you will have to pay altho it is cheap in comparison to UK prices.

I have been there from Alderney and gone to Alderney and from Guernsey very often. I choose to always get half way across at slack water and never attempt the entrance at low or high water as it can get a bit bumpy at times.

DONT bu the cooked sunday roast from the butcher at the top he pees against the side of the truck and then doesnt wash his hands beofre handling your meat. Pls the steam from his pee against the hot sides of the truck evaporates into your dinner yyeeeeuuuuccccchhhhhhhh !!!!

Lots of nice places to eat in Les Pieux aswell and some good shopping too. Free bus these days goes when ever you want and Cherbourg also plenty of buses and only 35 mins away. Or take a taxi.

Free bus sounds good. When we went there from Herm we foolishly had no francs? euros? and of course couldn't buy anything and couldn't get the bus or a taxi to get any money either.
We didn't have a problem with depth, 'cos we hung around outside with a couple of others, then followed them in at the appropriate time. I do remember there were a number of fishing floats dotted around a little distance off, visible during the day but we worried about them when we departed at half-past midnight to catch the Race at the right time. At low tide we could see that the 'inside corners' of the outer harbour looked very silted. But whilst we were there a JCB on a raft was hard at work dredging away.
The walk along the beach was nice, but frankly not as nice as Herm.
Probably the highpoint was the hordes of little kids (sorry, children) in Oppies in the adjacent? basin - their antics (wondering why they stopped when they turned into the wind) kept us amused for a long time. Oh yes, and seeing a big powerboat fuelling up, then going for a walk around (that's us, not the powerboat), and then seeing he was still fuelling up when we got back. Amazing quantity of jungle juice and presumably an amazing quantity of money too. On the other hand he probably got back to Brighton in half an hour ;-)
Overall quiet, pretty nice, clean and really rather boring.

You cant compare many beaches with Herm. Yes it is boring but nice to go and get way from it all. If you need Euros then go into Les Pieux or ask nicely with your credit card at the Yacht Club preferably after a meal.

Some of us Guernsey lot keep cars at Dielette so we can visit other areas during the summer months.

Lots of nice eating places and walks and a very lively place during the festival which takes place at the end of July start of August great fireworks a fair and lots of booze.

avoid if any swell from the west .... the outer harbour walls are a honeycomb structure to dissipate the force of the swell and locals advise not entering if you can see more than 5 of the honeycomb layers ....

on entry, you turn left and i would aim to turn slightly on the outside of the turn where the water's a bit deeper ... with gritted teeth as the wave pattern at the entrance seems to invite you to plunge forward on the crest of one! i'm sure my keel scraped the bottom (in 2002).

the waiting pontoon is a rough ride at any time and the dredger starts at an ungodly hour in the morning so get inside as soon as pos.

the caff on the harbour wall was a portacabin which in late spring served moules by the bucketfull and they are wonderful and you can crack endless crap jokes about france's nuclear energy creating such superb breeding grounds etc (but, just remember that france's nuclear reactors have twice the utilisation as UK) which'll get the locals cackling away ....

granville is worth a visit via DepSol's pal who runs the renault espace taxi ...
