Did anyone take part in the Queens 90th Flotilla??

Yes, I was in the crew of Massey Shaw; a fantastic day.

I do not agree that the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant was a wash out, the event took place despite the rain and was not cancelled, therefore was not a wash out. The weather did detract from that occasion more than somewhat but did not dampen the spirits of participants or spectators. Yesterday's event would also have gone ahead irrespective of the weather.

Inclement weather would most certainly not have been a good excuse for the leisure section of the fleet to have bailed out.
Especially as 90% of them came from two or three Thames clubs in some incestous stitch up of places allocated to Thames boats to the exclusion of the rest of UK waterways. :)

But you aren't bitter.... ;-)

As one of the very few token outsiders who did get a QDJP place, I have a great deal of sympathy for those (including you) that didn't, especially those who had taken the trouble to take part in the rehearsal(s). At least one boat allocated a place didn't attend the rehearsal(s) - I forget how many rehearsals there were, but including the 2011 Mayor's Thames Festival flotilla that was used as a dry run.

Two ex-QDJP recreational motor boats who wanted to take part in last weekend's HMQ90 flotilla, and were supported by the initial organizers, had their participation blocked by Lord Sterling's office, who took the whole thing over, on the spurious grounds that making a turn about at Lambeth would be too difficult. So it still goes on.

It's a well known fact that the QDJP was a total stitch up, so why would this be anything else!?

These cock-waving events are little more than Masonic organised one-sided everyone-else-excluded parties.

At this point, I lose total interest ;-)

Quite correct. And I have factual information which backs up your statement :encouragement:

This is a bitter thread. Where does Masonic influence come in to it? Surely the Thames clubs were used as convenience more than anything? Empirical evidence would be useful to back up your opinion?

It was actually blimming "bitterly" cold standing on Chelsea Bridge.
Watching the rowers representing the real spirit of the flottila slowly pass under the bridge in the driving sleet was inspirational.
The identikit boats from the Thames insular cabal,a tad less so. :)

It's a figure of speech...I'm not the only person who knows how the selection process was deeply flawed and omitted the possibility of many people even having a chance of being selected. I don't need to provide you with evidence, because I heard it from one of the organisers. :disgust:

Ah so you meant to old boy network. :-). Lots of that in the clubs as there are in many organisations. It should have been fair as its probably a once in a lifetime experience for most folk.

While not wishing to shove a pointy stick into an old wound,it was supposed to be national celebration of the queens jubilee.
You would be very hard pushed to find any trace of the national bit in the attending leisure fleet. Unless the Thames is the nation.
Some mention was also made of interesting and unusual boats representing the river over time.
Surely there must have been boats other than large Brooms on the Thames over the years. Obviously not.:)

Not even any Dunkirk little ships? I'll not comment about Brooms for fear of awakening Apollo..... I'd like to think that they used the club boats to make up the numbers but that will also poke at the wounds of any traditional boats that wanted to take part and couldn't so I'll leave it as is for now.

oh noooooo... What have I started??

I was on one of the Thames passenger boats that a group of us hired out. I got some great pics, somehow - I'm not altogether sure how as it was pretty bleak.

So it seems that you have to a member of a posh(ish) yacht club to get in on the act? I'm not sure my little plastic fantastic would be much fun. Although we did see some people on a rib with a hat on the top of it.

Plenty of ADLS boats.
There were even narrow boats and Dutch barges which must of made No Regrets a bit cross:)

You haven't started anything,it's just bitter old men who didn't get an invite years ago:)
I for one would like to see any pics you have of the Queen's 90th Flotilla :encouragement:
