We had a great day out on the water in Chi harbour yesterday in beautiful sunshine, light winds and flat water. Did any of you get out?

I realise a lot of you still have your boats in the car park and do not appologise for this blatant post pointing that out :D The next two months are going to be the best of the year for boating so hurry up and get yer boats in the water!!

Had a pleasant sail from Bangor to Carrickfergus yesterday. Lunch in the yacht club with a very nice pint of Guinness and a glass of white wine. Sailed home in the dark. Thankfully rain held off. A lovely afternoon :-)

Was waiting for some smug bugger to make a post like this :)

Yes, my boat is up on bricks and I was looking longingly at the water. Not all bad though, as the warm, dry, windless weather was ideal for applying the varnish to my mast, so that's another job ticked off the list.

Pete

We went down to the boat yesterday morning with several jobs planned. However Chi harbour looked so inviting that the list was abandoned in favour of an excellent day on the water. Cleaning the green from the decks can wait until next weekend.

Grrr, spent Saturday at Chichester rubbing down anti-foul and turning myself into a smurf. It was a nice day for it, I guess.

Sailed over to Ceuta saturday. Nice sunny reach! Big Carnival in the evening, quite unexpected but fab. Chilly evenings still.

Bit of a blast back yesterday, 3 reefs and 25 to 30 knots apparent breeze. Didnt bother the dolphins though.

Last job on the boat was to touch up the green volvo engine paint... but I left that for another day!

Had a beautiful trip to Shepherds Wharf (Cowes) from Southsea marina.. a lovely Saturday night out along the High Street and was cooked a Sunday roast in Cowes before heading back..

We did comment that there were very few boats out and only one Sunsail boat was seen... Thought that the closure of the small boat channel in Portsmouth Harbour entrance might be causing a few to re-think.

Yep! Got out Saturday for a slow drift down harbour under kite alone and a slightly brisker sail back up later.

I was in just a t-shirt for much of the time too! Certainly beats anti-fouling!! :D:cool:

Chichester was was the place to be (as it was a fortnight ago for last ~springs) - Same Chi Marina-Emsworth-Chi Marina run. Shame about the lack of wind on Sunday 'tho.

I must have passed you and Lustyd at some point.

I'm getting to like this "staying in for the winter" lark ;-)

Small boat channel

Really? Can anyone confirm this? I've had a quick scan thru notices to mariners and can't find anything? Hoping to go out this weekend so would be nice to know!

Launched two weeks ago but had our first upwind down tide blast just to check the stick and rags were ok last Saturday.
45 minutes down tide for 6 miles in glorious sunshine and a steady force 3.

Turned around and 2 hours on a dead:D run to get back to dock.(Left the Spinnaker at home!)

The joys of Menai Strait sailing with 5-6 knots of spring tides.

Cant wait for a full weekend away.

We had a great sail from Gosport to East Cowes on Saturday - sunshine, sea state smooth, wind F3-4. Had to motor back on Sunday morning owing to wind shortage (though it was beginning to fill in a bit when we reached the Inner Swashway). For the record, Portsmouth Small Craft Channel was NOT closed at the weekend - and when it is you'll still be able to get in and out, but will need to ask QHM's permission first (VHF channel 11). See LNTM.

Um...why? I mean, why should the eight weeks until May, be better than the next eight, from then till August?

Just tends to be - nice clear bright sky and steady wind. Once May hits we tend to get rain and stronger winds. Last year the best couple of months were early in the year as you'll see if you look back at the moaning posts during "summer"

Still confused? :D

No, you were very clear last time. I'm not sure I'm resigned to such dismal inevitability though. I think the only prediction we can make about our climate is its inconsistency. As such, I doubt every week of this July & August, will be as rotten as May & June were...

...either way, I prefer warmish with some rain, to wintry clarity with a dash of deep-freeze. However pretty the latter is.
