diamond pattern deck

The anti-skid diamond pattern on the deck of my Sun Legend 41 is very effective.

But now that I have to repair some big scratches I feel in trouble : any suggestion on how to plaster some patch on the deck keeping the antiskid pattern, also for aesthetic reasons ?

I have seen reasonable results but it invoved making a 'stamp' using the original pattern and then using the stamp on the filler / gelcoat before it sets. Don't know exactly how it was done but it produced a resonable result.

I think that you could do this by making a mould of the antiskid finish using rubber/silicone material which a good Fibreglass supplier would have in stock. I'm not sure where you are based but Matrix Mouldings in Bristol could help. They are excellent and the boss knows about boats; he's making a carbon fibre catamaran in his spare time, so he will know exactly what you are talking about.

I haven't got the number to hand, but if you need I could look it up.

step1 spread some cling film loosely on an area approx the size you need to imprint later

step2 prepare some 2-pack epoxy putty, and when its really smooth and warm, press it strongly onto the non-skid area (over a firm/supported part, for instance)

step 3 put some heavy weight onto the putty and leav for 20-60 min (depends on product)

step 4 repair area in question with filler and bring up roughly to desired level

step 5 cover with cling film and slowly but staedily press down your "pattern printer", aligning it with the pattern by slooting it on to the unrepaired non-skid

(you may have to carefully choose the right area for your pattern, if you have a curved deck)
