A really mad part of Hambleden lock control systems is that lock keeper power allows opening of the remote gates! I know remote sluices is normal but remote gates is too dangerous !
The remote buttons that used to operate the tail gates, were disabled 12 years ago, as remotely operating gates with a very busy footpath across them was considered extremely dangerous. However, it is still possible to open the head gates remotely, though this function is very rarely used.

The controls for the tail gates make the operator look towards the lock which is why you will often see the duty keeper standing on the other side and reaching over to the buttons so s(he) can watch out for the idiot cyclists and pedestrians moving towards to gates. Yes it is a public right of way. They had to put in some railings a number of yars ago to help slow down the idiot cyclists.

I wonder how long it will be before the walkway across the weir is closed because of the steel railings cracking the concrete walkways resulting in elfin safety problems.

Difficult lock that one. Enlarged to lose excess traffic from the Regatta but faults are showing up.

Another issue there is the crazy little eddy bottom end of the lower layby and associated shallow area below the island.
