I want to design a website so that family/friends can follow our progress as we cruise round britain this year. I want to include a UK map, dotting our progress as we go, digital photos and reports of our adventures. Has anyone any ideas of how to go about designing this or is there anything similar out there that I can copy?

FWIW, here is ours. i built it using frontpage.

you would be well advised to use a nice simple map with plain areas of block colour to minimise download times.

do you have a server to host it? and are you planning to maintain it on a laptop and take that to internet cafes?

any advice you need, PM me.

Nice story! good reading. Must have been a great experience. I'm very envious. Maybe one day?
Regards.

It will be harder to update a log book if you aren't able to use your own computer, especially if you want to have a lot of photos.

I used the free Lycos based "tripod" service, but it does take some time to load complex pages.

You can see the results here:

(note no www. !)

More recently I have been cruising the San Blas islands where there are no internet cafes. But I have an Iridium phone and use the mailasail.com web diary facility. I can send plain emails from anywhere using it, but no images unless I am in an internet cafe. Mailasail should also be effective with a mobile phone

you can see results here

Again if you only need send text messages you can send reports to 7knots.com by email

Have a good sail!
