Hi All

I am doing some research for a 'part three' of the History of the Colvic Watson Motor Sailer for our group, but does anybody know 'when' Bill Waight designed the IP24 (Island Plastics Ltd) motorsailer.?

Bill was the Chief draughtsman to the late Uffa Fox but after contacting the group web site, they don't know either.

Present research shows the IP24 was designed in either the late 60's or very early 70's with the late 60's being the most likely, but I would like to know 'exactly' when.

Thanks
Mike

Hi

Many thanks for the information and an interesting IP24 website, which shows the first boats built were in 1974 by Island Plastics Ltd, which could indicate that the design was done in the early 70's, but no firm evidence.

I think Bills daughter must be in her 80's now.

Hope others may have more information

I know this does not answer your question but, did the IP 24 not originate from the !P 23 angling boat? I remember as a youf fishing from Millum (Lakes) in an IP 23, later in life I had a friend who had the IP 24 motor sailer moored at the river wyre lancs, both boats were very similar. In fact I have seen a couple of displacement cruisers (weekenders) that seem to have originated from the IP23 or IP24, they looked quite well for a budget style of boating.

Hi Davy

I think as you will find like many other boats the IP Fishing boat and the IP Motorsailer are both based on the same hull.

To date the earliest IP 24 I have proof on was built in 1974 unless someone has an earlier one.

I remember, Raedwald, a valuable and voluble contributor to the forum, has an IP24.Perhaps worth dropping him a line at

Hi Tim

Thanks for your help your first post led to a good lead then another then another then another!

It looks like I was right and it now looks like the IP 23'24 was 'designed' in the late 60's when Bill Waight left Uffa Fox and was up at Dickies yard in Tarbert.
