Can any one recommend the best method of descaling the heat exchanger please.

It has been removed from the engine and end caps removed so its easy to play with.

Thanks

I have used a welding rod (or piece of steel wire) flattened at one end with a hammer, and then ground or filed, so that it just fits into the tubes. Rotate with electric drill, and gradually move forward into each tube. That does the insides of the tubes well, but the outsides is a different story.

Put it in a suitable container and fill with kettle descaler - acetic acid, the cheapest vinegar, will do. Leave overnight and flush generously with fresh water. It may need 2 goes round, but only if things have been really bad before hand.

Make sure use use softened, de mineralised water when you refill the system.

Be amazed at the improved flow through
