Hello,
I've been meaning to put this on the forum for a while - in August 2006, CB carried an article about the Derby Class FMB. In the article, the four deck level mounting points are mentioned and their purpose speculated over. I have a 40' SPT, also of double diagonal mahogany construction and many of these craft were fitted with the same lifting points. My research suggests that these points were fitted so that the boat could be lifted out of the water after use, the reason being to prevent the wood from becoming water-logged, as the additional weight would affect the vessel's speed. It struck me that the same might be true for the Derby class...
That said, my boat has no lifting points, so perhaps it was decided that the benefits didn't justify the efforts of craning boats in and out of the water every time they were used...
Anyway, I thought I'd mention it...
