Sailed into swansea monday 3 hours after lw 1pm and was surprised to see a yacht agound 30 m from the lock
As we came towards the lock we were pushing some serious sludge which didnt stop us but slowed us right down
The poor chap on a round britian trip had been there since 10 am
I wasnt aware there were problems entering swansea

Regards

My Handbook says " Great care is necessary at low water springs as there is a danger of drying out ". 3 Hrs after low tide should not have given any problems and if you can clear the Lock entrance would be OK . As for the other boat , I assume he was over to Starboard . Out of the channel .

Slightly surprised by that.

Coming out of the lock we head straight for the two mooring buoys then slightly to staboard and head for the Ferry terminal.

There are mud banks either side, so assume you both must have been to one side of the centre channel.

Was much of the mud exposed?

It has always been a bone of contention that the lock area is not dredged, but I have never had a problem there.

The lock closes when the tide level goes below 1.5m, but then fo perhaps one hour either side of low water.

Perhaps the air pressure was depressing the water more than usual. Not sure what the pressure was yesterday.

Hope you enjoyed a beer of two in the club afterwards.

The sailor was in a hunter 29 with 1.5 m keel fin
He was slightly over to our port we were pushing serious sludge/mud as we came in
perhaps we were over a bit to near the wall although he wasnt that close maybe a bit to close to the wall eh ?
I saw the holding bouys and will head straight for them when I leave friday
Planning to leave 3 hrs after lw for a trip to worms head
We have 55 hp engine which I gues is why we didnt get stuck
The chap on the sadler had emptied his boat just in case to his dinghy

Quite right Mark.

If you're in any doubt at all, as was mentioned earlier once you're past the holding buoys, head as directly as possible to the ferry terminal on the port side as that was dredged to take the ferry at any state of tide and you definitely won't have a problem from there out.
