Depth Tranducers and their compatability.

Last year i had some problems with my Seafarer Depth gauge where it would be intermittent with its reading. Not to mention that the depth gauge resides beside the nav table and cant be seen when at the helm. I went in search of the inboard side of the transducer only to find that there are two transducers sitting side by side along the centre line. One is a through hull and the other goes through the hull (too early and i am confused)

I am wondering if i buy a repeater instrument, can i use the other transducer to get a reading? Can different makes be used together? I could not see any name or description, plus did not have a camera to be able to take pictures.

Is it just more prudent to buy a complete instrument and transducer and eliminate any problems?

two transducer side by side will not work in my experience as one interferes with the other.
