Does anybody know the drying heights (or have an idea of the tidal accessibility) for the various pub pontoons in Milford Haven for a boat of reasonably shallow draft? We're looking to plan our summer evenings and would like to get on some or all of the following. Appreciate not possible to overnight on them- I'm interested in whether I can get on them for a reasonable number of hours while we have dinner in the evening with a bit of margin for error. All look OK over HW but local knowledge of at what height of tide they can first be used would be appreciated. We draw 1.2m.

Ferry House Inn Hazelbeach (51 42.230 N 004 58.210 W) - looks like drying about 1.6m on Navionics

Jolly Sailor Burton (51 42.430 N 004 55.630 W) - on Navionics looks like drying anywhere between 0.4 and 2.9m, which makes quite a difference...

Shore pontoon outside the Griffin at Dale- looks like drying 1.1m on Navionics- Imray looks more like 3.5m?

There also seems to be a seasonal pontoon laid at Neyland Yacht Club (51 42.260 N 004 57.005 W), looks like drying around 1.5m on Navionics.

I know we can get on the floating pontoon at Dale.

Any other walk-ashore pontoons? (specifically interested in walk ashore opportunities as we have a small baby and its equipment to transport).

Cheers

Pontoon at the Jolly.... dries about 1m... when the water is lapping at the base of the old Trinity House jetty there is ~1m depth at the end of the Jolly pontoon. Watch for strong currents at springs.
The Griffin... dries about 1m but its very flat on the approach and is around the same depth for a good distance out into the moorings. The hammerhead is for drop-off and collect only, moor up on the sides
Neyland YC... bit less than 1m drying
Hazel beach... dries but not sure by how much
Lawrenny arms .... think this one stays afloat all the time except at the bottom of big springs
Floating one at Dale.... Stays at least 2.5m deep, but its a long row to the Griffin. Don't overnight here on springs unless you like being bounced up and down the pontoon, at other times its generally very convivial.

All depending on tides
Springs range is ~7m
Neaps range is ~3m

Thank you tico that is really useful info. Had lunch at the Jolly yesterday as it happens (without the boat) but it was high tide so loads of water.

Thanks. We are taking a berth in Milford marina :)

Theres a pontoon at Lawrenny which you can tie up to at all states of tide I believe (if I remember right) where theres a pub, tea room and some nice walks. You're not meant to stay there, but if you ask I imagine it'd be fine for a pub lunch or something.

Every time we were at Dale on summer weekends, the Griffin pontoon was so rammed with dinghies and families out crabbing etc that mooring up would have been tricky, but week days probably easier!

You can also tie up at Hobbs point to go to the supermarkets, not much else there though. Shame as there was a sailing club there but thats long closed.

At Lawrenny and Hobbs point the tide really rips past the pontoon so have loads of fenders out, fore and aft. Makes tying up nice and easy though!

Interesting! Tied up there 2 years ago and it was boarded up, a guy on the pontoon said he was a member and that the club house had to close, maybe reopened since which is good! Its a nice pontoon in deep water and a good location so if the club is open now thats great news

Certainly looks like its in business on on Google Streetview - edited though the image is 2011! but the website seems encouraging.

Just as it happens I called to Hobbs point by land today. PHYC Clubhouse was not open this afternoon, but it is clearly very much in business- will look forward to calling in there this summer.

Kelpie boats, the small chandlery that used to be next door, is however long gone.

The pontoons outside Milford marina are not supposed to be used for that, the port hand one is for comercial boats and the starboard one is for pick up/drop off, or boats waiting for the lock. This is explained on the link posted by Bitbaltic https://www.mhpa.co.uk/flipbook/
