Mine has played up all year sometimes reading OK and other times over reading so much that it keeps showing as OUT.
I cleaned out the transducer and re filled it with castor oil, checked the connections, in fact I have tried everything without luck.
The boat is now out of the water and I’m about to fit a new one, however, it now occurs to me that how can I check the new one is working when the boat is out of the water ?? Should have thought of this before……
Anyone any idea what the problem might be AND if and when I fit a new one can I check it works before the boat goes back in.

Thanks in advance.

You can test the transducer by using a length of plastic drainpipe, but there's no need to fill it with water, it works in air too. Hold one end against the hull. The end opposite the transducer needs to be capped. The reading you get should be about 4 times the length of the pipe (so a 1 metre pipe should give a depth reading of about 4 metres).
