Is the boating market like the one for houses or cars? Are we currently in a buying or selling market?

I'm looking for a Cat although it will be a while before I actually buy. Are there more buyers or sellers in an average year or does it fluctuate.

I suppose what I'm saying is will I drive around the country only to be constantly 'gazumped' by other buyers who have got there first?

PS Did you hear about the Irish Boomerang? It didn't come back, just sang lots of songs about wanting to!

It is always a buyers market for ferro, especially in UK, as the market is somewhat distrustful of this material - primarily due to poor home plastered versions. This is reflected not only in price, but also in there being more for sale than people who want to buy. Catamarans have been growing ever more popular as people discover the joys of close hauled sailing on the level and much better accomodation. From all I have read on the Ferro you are after, it would appear to be worthy of a good survey and an offer.

Isn't it a buyers market for all boats? Seems to be. There are hundreds of thousands of boats and cats out there begging for new owners. I'm trying to sell Jack Daniels at the moment and I reckon that I'll have to give her away in the end, just to rid myself of the responsibility of mooring etc.

By the way, my skipper is off to Mexico tomorrow to check out the boat. We will survey and if all goes well[we've given him 3 weeks over there to do things properly] it's ours! From all the reading we've done, we far prefer a professionally built[which it is] ferro to tupperware or tin.

We started looking last May (04) and purchased in August. We were advised by many brokers that boats generally were not selling with many over priced and a long time on the market. We were told on a few occasions that many boat owners had an inflated opinion wrt the value of their boats and that many even newer boats exchanged hands for as much as 30% less than the asking price, compare that with the housing market.

Good luck
