Any one have personal experience?

Looking to buy and keep on the Gt. Ouse. With coastal forays from Kings Lynn.

Where to look for possible hull problems?

What is river handling like with twin outdrives?

Possible cruising / max speed with twin Primas (50hp?????)

Advantages/ disadvantages??

Seasons greetings one and all.

Well, they started using Fairey built hulls, the hot moulded hull shells in general have lasted very well, the only real likely problems in this area would be water getting into the end grain around the top edge of the hull, you can check for this by tapping all round the boat the top few inches just like checking for loose plaster in a house, the same applies to the end grain around the transom. Repairing localised areas is easy, some 3mm veneer and a pot of epoxy, it can be messy and fiddly but easy to pick up, the rest of the construction is ply and most scantlings and carlins etc will be mahogany, you might find the odd bit of pine or larch maybe in the ring frame.

They prefer salt water to fresh, so if its been in fresh water check it even more carefully.

The hull is a good design, derived from the huntress/huntsman family. Not all the boats used Fairey hulls I think later they were cold moulded elsewhere.

see http://www.dellquayranger.supanet.com/

Use a surveyor that knows wooden boats.

Beware, there have been a few rotten wrecks on the market in recent times, like the 1500 boat that was on ebay and only good for firewood.

Hope this helps.

I think that was Kims polite way of telling me to get rid of the second url.

That site will be ready in a few weeks (still under construction) and hopfully the other one that it will be affiliated to by spring. Dont worry you will all know when its up and running.

2 x Prima's? (50hp)
Bit odd for a fast boat design. Clearly re-engined.
Will be a dog at sea, like any planing hull at displacement speeds.

Look out for rot, as said elsewhere.
