New to me Warrior 40, now ready to go, lying Bangor north Wales. Currently ashore, launch day as above, would like to get to Falmouth [uk] over the next few days. [weather permitting] I have been unavoidably let down with my present arrangements re skipper, hence the need to find a suitable replacement.
Plan is to get her in the water on 18th [hw is 10.30] get to Holyhead for the night, then Falmouth in one go if possible,I will be along for the trip.
Please pm me if interested.
Many thanks.
Phil...

I have replied to everyone who has shown me the curtesy of answering my post whether by the forum, pm, e-mail or phone. If you are refering to my post on the same subject before xmas, to which you replied, i sent you a pm, i can only apologise if for some reason you did'nt receive it.

Yes, you said you were away for a couple of weeks and would get back to me, which you did not. BTW, your passage plan NORTH to Holyhead seems at odds with Falmouth as a destination from Bangor. If you or your skipper are so fearful of the Swellies I would think seriously about making this trip - there are other hazardous areas which can't be avoided by a 60 mile detour.

Well put me down as cautious if you like, but as i have already said, boat is new [to me] and untried, the last thing i want is engine problems in the Swellies. The reason for Holyhead is to make it into a mini shakedown to test that everything is as it should be.
Boat will not be launched until H/W. optimum time for the Swellies is -2hrs. It will be coming up to springs, need i say more, i find your attitude offensive, but then its my boat and i think that entitles me to do as i see fit...

Perfectly sensible plan, imho. Enjoy the trip. Bill.

Not sure if that includes being downright rude but hey-ho! Why you think the North coast of Anglesey is safer than than the Swellies I don't know! Best of luck.

i`ve no wish to intrude on private grief but i can`t help wondering why you cannot skipper the boat yourself since you say you are going along on the trip.

Maybe because he VERY sensibly, is aware of his limitations/experience, seems an admirable approach to me, not to be scoffed at!

Surley good passage planning should take into consideration what the boat owner/skipper is happy with. Seems to me that if his passage plan to Falmouth includes Stornoway, that's entirely up to him, provided he has done a good assement of his crew and boat. Go with the wind I say - and have a great trip, whichever route you and the condidtions decide.

problem here seems to be that the person doing the passage planning appears to feel he does not have the experience / competence to skipper said passage /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

well be carfull what you do, these people think they are experiencd, and describe themselves as that, i was merchant navy for years, and had to get a boat from the us, i got so much talk, left jacksonvile florida with two uk offshore yachtsmaters, they could do no maintenance, they were worthless, they could sail, one nearly hit a freighter, then thought it was the fishing boat i had told him to look out for, they are useless, three week course, thats all it is, merchants seman has to spend 36 months at sea to get AB ticket, and whatever you do, dont hire john harper, he was with me, not ony useless, but a thief, and he left me in bermuda

One assumes that the skipper, if any use!, will be involved in the passage planning once appointed.
