I am buying a Bavaria 37 at Southsea and need to get it to Hartlepool (approx 360 nm). My wife and I have limited sailing experience (but both have ICCs) and would like to use a delivery skipper who will give us some tuition on the way.

Any advice on how to find such a person (and determine their competence) will be appreciated.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a skipper thay have used or know well?

Finally, can anyone give me a guide as to how much such a service will cost?

Thanks,
Alan.

from Grimsby up its easy I did it in one leg single handed
Lowestoft to Grimsby can be a bit of a problem at this time of year tho too many northerlies
Portsmouth to Lowestoft is an easy one ..with a call in to pick up liquid supplies in France Fecamp maybe?

If it's just getting the boat home then you could put it on a lorry - may not be too ifferent in price especiall if the sail becomes slow due to poor weather/few stops in marinas etc.

agree if the boat is out of the water at the moment, road maybe the way to go if you are in a hurry to get the thing moved. (giving the nice weather we are having recently - it could be a long rough slog home). maybe not the best experience of buying a new toy for your other half if you are limited on your costal sailing. road transport may even be as cheap as a skipper if you get marina bound for a few day due to weather.

best of luck
