Hi,posted earlier ref a vetus mtp30 helm pump that is potentially failing but was removed for some reason!!!!

It has been taken off the boat and on my work bench i have attached to clear pipes from the feed ports to a drum of oil,

When turning the pump in either direction there is a lot of air bubbles from the outlet pipe.

The pump itself is full of oil and the pipes themselves are in the drum of oil.

All connections are tight and im getting no visible air being drawn in

Is this showing the helm pump internally is drawing in air from the reservoir?

Also the helm pump has a built in check valve and there is also a dual check valve fitted in the system as it has an auto pilot aswell.
Does having 2 check valves in the system cause the helm pump to be not as smooth as without the dual check not fitted?

Also on hard lock it takes a built of a build up of pressure to get the rudder to start moving, with a jolt also.

cheers
