Unfortunately there has been a delay in the project completion, however testing is almost completed and the final build scheduled for this month (November 2013). We are hoping to have the marina open and operational in December 2013. Please find the contact details of the Harbour Master below. Please can I suggest you contact him at the end of November for an update.

Hopefully next pics will have boats in.

Are there any more details online?

Is the gate going to be daytime only or open on all tides (overnight?)
How many hours either side of hw will the gate operate?
Is there marina car parking
Is there likely to be berths available, or is there a waiting list?

Biggest concern is drunks on Fri and Sat doing damage:mad::mad:

This was written in May and says there was already a long waiting list by then, as well as requiring bertholders to meet unspecified 'specific criteria'. It's not specific about much else but the suggestion seems to be that it will be a full service Marina competing with Cardiff and Swansea.

Cheers

I don't think it can seriously be seen as a competitor of any Cardiff marina with only 70 berths. No lift out facilities at the moment and no clubhouse until much later. There will be temporary showers and toilets. I understand it will be 24hr access dependant on tides with approximately 2.5hrs either side of HW. I understand they are confident of a 3hr window on a spring. Hopefully, the promised spy cameras will do the trick with the vandals but I have to say I will feel very vulnerable as I have a berth at the near end under the road. Also, there will be permanent staff on site for a great deal of the time. certainly when the gates are open as I understand they will not be automatic. Not cheap by the way, on a par with Cardiff Bay Yacht club with far fewer facilities but much better access to the west and clear water. There is a boat club which I shall certainly be joining when I get my boat there in December. Personally, I am keeping my membership of Cardiff Bay in order to use the lift out and yard there every now and then. Oh! I have just remembered another downside for visiting yachts, at the moment depth will be pretty much restricted to 1.5 Mtrs with possibility of a little more later on. On the positive side the harbour master Sean Warrington seems a very good man and certainly very approachable and helpful. Fingers are crossed for happy sailings.

The 1.5m draft will put A lot off. Does that mean 1.5m depth when they open the gate, so much more at HW?

What is bad weather access like at Porthcawl, is it dangerous on certain wind directions?

AS I understand it 1.5 is the least level they will keep in the marina. I guess that means they open the gate and drop the cill when it reaches that outside? I have never entered Porthcawl so this will be a suck and see exercise for me. having said that hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will respond? Obviously Tusker will have to be avoided but other than that I have no clue. I also understand there will be a waiting buoy just outside the gate.

I was there today. Pontoons look complete, BUT, the surroundings aee a mess and i saw no sign of a car park or showers. Anyone know what the plans for these are.

Parking on the streets will be a pain in the summer season, it was packed down there today on a drizzly Sunday

It just looks like phase 1 of several phases is nearing completion. Bridgend Council are suspiciously quiet over the next phases of development yet they expect it to be ready soon for boat owners to commit to berthing a boat there. Facillities, boat hoist, 24hr security and hours of manning the gate are still to be clarified by the council. Strange there is no web site for the marina.

I am just as keen as everyone else to see old BC ports rejuvenated with new marinas but this one looks like a lot more money than the original £3.5M will be required to complete fully and a proper plan put in place.

When i spoke to them about the gate they said it would open on overnight tides by arrangement. They are talking about 16 month initial contracts, so they must be expecting it to open in December. That is why i was suprised at the lack of facilities. As a visitor the lack of toilets and showers are a concern. As a potential bertholder the missing car parking is more of an issue. I dont fancy leaving it on the roadside on a busy summer weekend.
