What is the approx deisel fuel usage of a BMC 1500 at say 1800 revs. I have seen Gals / hour figures quoted for various engines. Boat is 33 ft, 5000 Kgs. Thanks.

Re: Diesel Gals / Hour

I've been told a good rule of thumb is 0.2 liters per HP per hour

I had the BMC 1800 diesel in my Freeman 27 and at 1800 rpm it would do 8-9 knots and burnt 3 litres an hour or 75p an hour. BMC 1500 will be about the same. Expensive boating eh?

Claymore has a 1.8 BMC engine - she is 30 ft LOA.
I use 1 gallon every 2 hours - rain or shine- motorsailing or motoring.
My ideal cruising revs are 1600

Sounds like a Moody 33?

Depends on your prop. Twisted 3-blader good. Folding two blade poor. In light conditions, 0.5 gph; in heavy going with the folder at, say, 2400 rpm, up to almost 1.5 gph. I figured on about 2/3 of a gph on average at 6.5 knots with the 3-blade, a gallon with the folder.
